Season 2008 will see the return of Ness Utd B. This has been the first time that Ness has run independent A and B sides for many years. This fact shows that senior football in the South Mainland is progressing steadily after several years of mixed fortunes.
A senior Ness side was re-established in 2001 and the team has flitted between the A and B leagues over the past seven seasons. Changes to the league structure in 2007 saw only true 'reserve' sides allowed to compete in the reserve league. With the senior side focussed on the top flight, along with the deterioration of the Southern League, the club now had enough squad surplus to consider operating two sides, a notion that would have been very ambitious even a few years ago. But thanks to the efforts of the committee, team managers and players, these ambitions have been realised in just a short space of time.
2008 marks a new dawn for Ness B and provides the team with the chance to create a new (and hopefully successful) history.
Ness United took the decision in 2007 to field a reserve team in the Shetland Football associations reserve league in season 2008. After a shaky start the squad settled into the swing of things managing to take points off all of the teams in the league with the exception of Celtic who managed two wins over the Ness team.
The team showed well in the league and managed a respectable third place behind Delting reserves who finished second and the Whalsay reserve team who set the pace the whole season to clinch first place.
Ness hope to build on the hard work of season 08 and push for wins over all the teams in the league and reduce the goals against column.
